IBM Copy Services Manager 6.2.2.2 is the latest fix pack version of IBM Copy Services Manager.

Fixed in this Release

APAR / Issue DESCRIPTION

APAR PH00298

This fix is for a multi-target Metro Mirror – Metro Mirror environment, where one leg is HyperSwap or Hardened Freeze enabled and the other leg is not. If a Suspend command is issued to the session while z/OS is down or the communication has been lost, the communication error to z/OS might cause the session to not unfreeze the non HyperSwap leg.

An issue was found where in a multi-target MM-MM environment, where one MM leg has HyperSwap enabled and the other MM leg does not, if communication is lost between the Copy Services Manager server and z/OS, and a Suspend command is issued, a thaw might not occur to the MM relationships that do not have HyperSwap enabled. The Suspend command attempts to suspend both MM legs, but issues the Suspend to z/OS for the HyperSwap enabled leg. When the communication fails, an error is received. When Copy Services Manager goes to issue the unfreeze to both legs, it is incorrectly interpreting the communication error as an error in freezing the leg, and skips the unfreeze to the hardware. This situation results in the leg being frozen for the duration of the Extended Long Busy timer. With this fix, Copy Services Manager ensures that an unfreeze is issued despite the communication error to z/OS.

APAR PI99769
Errors occurred while Flashing Multiple Copy Services Manager MGM sessions where multiple sessions share the same Master session ID on the same LSS.

A customer experienced multiple errors while attempting to Flash multiple MGM with Practice sessions, resulting in sessions that could not be restarted and continue to form consistency groups. Due to the large configuration, with multiple sessions sharing the same Master, an internal error was hit when attempting to store the information in the Copy Services Manager data store. This situation lead to multiple issues as sessions lost the knowledge needed to manage the restart during the Flashes. This fix should prevent the errors in the internal data store, as well provide better error handling in coordinating the Flash across the shared sessions.

APAR PH01041
An error occurred when attempting to resynchronize the standby server with an active server in a large environment with multiple shared sessions.

A defect was found where there was an error when attempting to store the data in an environment with a large number of sessions that shared the same Global Mirror Master. The data was larger than allowed for the data store, which caused the synchronization on the standby server to fail. This release should prevent the error that led to attempting to store too much data in the data store entry, so that now the resynchronization can complete.

APAR PH01444
After issuing a Suspend command to a multi-target MM-MM session that was HyperSwap enabled, when the session is restarted, the HyperSwap configuration did not automatically reload.

An issue occurred when the Suspend command was issued to a HyperSwap enabled session while Copy Services Manager was disconnected from z/OS. When this situation occurred, the session was incorrectly marked internally as having HyperSwap turned off. When the session was restarted, a load did not occur because HyperSwap was considered turned off for the session. You can uncheck, then recheck Manage with HyperSwap in the session properties to work around the issue. This release fixes the issue so that HyperSwap automatically reloads after restarting the session.

APAR PH01273
After upgrading to Copy Services Manager 6.2.2  in some environments, all attempts to log in to the Copy Services Manager server fail.

An issue was found where during the server startup processing, changes made for Easy Tier Heat Map Transfer support might make a call to get Storage System information. If the information is null, a NullPointerException is encountered, which then caused the remaining steps in startup processing to fail to complete. This release fixes the issue by better handling the error condition and allowing the server to complete the startup process.

APAR IT25586
After adding copy sets back into a Spectrum Virtualize based Global Mirror with Change Volume session, the session was automatically converted from change volume mode to regular Global Mirror mode.

An issue was found where all copy sets were removed from a Spectrum Virtualize Global Mirror with Change Volume session with the “keep on hardware” option, and then re-added back into the session. This situation resulted in the session getting set to a regular Global Mirror mode instead of change volume mode. After removing all the relationships from the consistency group on the hardware, the session queried the consistency group to get the cycling mode value, but the hardware returned an empty string since the group was empty. The session incorrectly interpreted that empty string as cycling mode no longer being set, and modified the properties on the session. In this release, a fix is provided that will appropriately handle the empty string and leave the session in the correct cycling mode.

APAR PH00210
While attempting to issue a Suspend to a HyperSwap enabled session while connectivity between the Copy Services Manager server and z/OS has been lost, the commands take too long before timing out.

When HyperSwap is enabled on a session and the Suspend command is issued, Copy Services Manager first attempts to send the command through the z/OS connection.  If a disaster occurred where the z/OS system is no longer accessible, causing a loss in communication between the Copy Services Manager server and z/OS, a customer might need to issue the Suspend command to force the session into a Suspended state to allow the Recover command to be used by the customer to switch to their secondary site. The default timeout time for commands between the Copy Services Manager server and z/OS is too long for customers that need to move quickly to their secondary site. This release provides a fix where the Suspend command now has a shorter timeout time than other commands. This design makes the command timeout quicker and allows the customer to Recover faster at their secondary site.

APAR PI98518
The Copy Services Manager GUI does not allow passwords with special characters when creating a Host connection from Copy Services Manager to z/OS.

The Copy Services Manger GUI uses URL encoding to pass data to the server.  Because of this design, special characters did not work because they did not get decoded before sending the password for authentication.  In this release, a fix is provided so that customers who have security requirements for passwords using special characters such as @ and #, can set up a z/OS connection using those passwords.

APAR P197901
In a multi-target MM-GM environment, with the auto restart after a HyperSwap property set, the auto restart might not occur if communication to the primary storage system is lost.

In multi-target MM-GM environments, customers can set a property that tells the session that after a HyperSwap occurs, the session should be automatically restarted at the remote site. This practice helps to ensure that after swapping to the secondary site, replication is restarted immediately to ensure continuous data protection. A defect was found where the auto restart fails if connectivity is lost to the original primary storage system. This release resolves this issue so that the auto restart executes despite losing connectivity to the primary storage system.

Defect 74484
In a HyperSwap enabled environment, when a secondary storage system error results in z/OS disabling HyperSwap and suspending the relationships, the Copy Services Manager server might incorrectly interpret the event as a HyperSwap event.

An issue was found where after a secondary storage system error resulted in the session being suspended to ensure consistency at the secondary site, the Copy Services Manager server might incorrectly interpret the event as a HyperSwap event, and move the session to a post HyperSwap state. This situation occurs when Copy Services Manager attempts to ping IOS to determine if a swap occurred, and a loss of connectivity to z/OS results in the ping failing. This release provides a fix to handle the case where z/OS is down when Copy Services Manager attempts to determine if a swap has occurred.

Defect 74023
When multiple MM sessions share the same LSS pairings, if both are started in Global Copy mode, the second session to be started can result in setting the consistency group flag for the logical paths, which can result in a freeze condition during an unexpected suspension.

An issue was found when there are two MM sessions with both getting started in Global Copy mode, the second session might incorrectly set the consistency group mode on the logical paths. The error occurs because the code that checks if the consistency group mode is needed, is looking at the default rules for any other sessions that share the same LSS pairing, instead of looking at the current state of the role pairs in that session. This release provides a fix so that the correct consistency group setting is set on the paths when the StartGC command is issued for the second session.
