IBM Cognos ICM - How to escape special characters in Imports -> ODBC Connection string ?

Question & Answer

Question

How to escape special characters in Imports -> ODBC Connection string ?

Answer

Special characters can be escaped by encapsulating them in curly brackets {...}.

When there is an un-escaped special character in the ODBC connection string, the software will raise an error similar to:

"Format of the initialization string does not conform to specification starting at index 90."

Example of escaped password, containing a semicolon, in an ODBC connection sting:

Driver={SQL Server};Server=192.168.0.100;Database=DBNAME;Uid=USERNAME_Import;Pwd={ABC;efg};
