IBM Automation Decision Services support statement for Kubernetes platforms

General Page

When using Kubernetes platforms, IBM Automation Decision Services (ADS) containers support those Kubernetes distributions referenced in IBM’s ADS Offering Documentation.
If not referenced in IBM’s offering documentation, IBM must be contacted to determine coverage on a case-by-case basis. If it is determined that the client’s chosen Kubernetes is not supported by IBM, the client may request an offering enhancement via the following link : IBM Ideas.
When using a Kubernetes platform, ADS support is limited to the commercially available Kubernetes engine within the Kubernetes platform. For IBM technical support for other services please refer to the Software Product Compatibility Reports (SPCR).

For Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, IBM supports platform-specific configuration services such as network configuration, ingress and load balancing, and security.

IBM does not warrant that all code defects will be corrected in these environments, but will issue defect correction information, a restriction, or a workaround if the defect is also applicable to a specific distribution referenced in IBM’s offering documentation. If the problem cannot be re-created on a Kubernetes distribution documented in the IBM offering documentation it will not be considered an IBM product defect.

Clarifications

  • To allow the correct deployment of IBM ADS, the support provider for a Kubernetes platform must take care of the configuration of the Kubernetes cluster. If the provider cannot resolve a problem with the platform, IBM Support reserves the right to deem the version, release or fix pack of the platform to be "not supported."

  • Installations of IBM ADS must be done on a Kubernetes distribution referenced in the offering documentation and which meets the minimum requirements as reflected in the Software Product Compatibility Reports (SPCR).  Any deviations from SPCR will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

  • ADS operators can deploy components to Kubernetes platforms. However, the operator will only deploy and configure up to the point of the Kubernetes service. External access configuration to component services, like ingress or application load balancer (ALB), will require manual, post deployment steps. Additionally, this also means that some post initialization, configurations and integrations of components will need to be done manually.

  • For Kubernetes platforms other than Red Hat OpenShift, IBM cannot assist with Kubernetes environment setup tasks.

  • IBM does not run compatibility tests on Kubernetes environments other than Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform. This includes Kubernetes distribution referenced in the offering documentation.

  • ADS containers might not be able to interact with the services of a Kubernetes platform provider if they are not described in the SPCR. For example, the containers might not be able to send information that is used by certain monitoring and logging services.

  • IBM technical support for ADS is limited to the code that is developed by IBM. On OCP, it also covers the configuration of the environment for the correct deployment of ADS, including network configuration, load balancing, and security.

  • The support statement covers all containers required to install the ADS product on Kubernetes OCP and other distributions referenced in the offering documentation.
  • The client is responsible for the following : Kubernetes Support, Storage, Security, Kubernetes Admin, Graphical UI, Monitoring, Logging, Back-up, High Availability and Disaster Recovery, UP-Stream OLM (if required), Capacity Planning, Air-gap Image Mirroring (if required), Support for Kubernetes distribution specific constructs, Run License Services / Advisor (Container ILMT), Configuration / Management of Pod Security Policies (PSP’s), Developer / Deployer tooling, e.g., GitOps pipeline, Performance.
