Prerequisites and co-requisites

General description
This is an interim fix for the Monitoring agent for Linux KVM provided with IBM Application Performance Management family of products, Version 8.1.4.0.
It includes fixes for the Linux KVM agent and upgrades the agent from version 08.19.06.00 to 08.19.06.01.

Platforms and prerequisites
The Monitoring Agent for Linux KVM is supported on the platforms documented here.

The interim fix for the Linux KVM agent is intended to be applied to the Monitoring Agent for Linux KVM version 07.20.12.00 which is provided with:

IBM Cloud Application Performance Monitoring Base Private, Version 8.1.4.0
IBM Cloud Application Performance Monitoring Advanced Private, Version 8.1.4.0.

IBM Cloud Application Performance Monitoring Base, Version 8.1.4.0
IBM Cloud Application Performance Monitoring Advanced, Version 8.1.4.0.

Installation information

Prior to installation

The Linux KVM agent version 08.19.06.00 must be installed and running before applying the agent interim fix.

Installing

Installing the agent interim fix
 

  1. Download the patch bundle from Fix Central for each OS type where your agent is installed:
    • 8.1.4.0-IBM-APM-LINUX-KVM-AGENT-XLINUX-IF0001.tar
  2. Unpack the patch bundle on each computer system where the agent is already installed by using the tar utility on Linux or unzip on Windows.

    e.g.

    tar -xf 8.1.4.0-IBM-APM-LINUX-KVM-AGENT-XLINUX-IF0001
     
  3. Enter the created directory
     
  4. Run the apmpatch.sh/bat tool as the same user who installed the agent:

    Linux:
    ./apmpatch.sh <APM-AGENT-HOME>

    Windows:
    ./apmpatch.bat <APM-AGENT-HOME>

    where the <APM-AGENT-HOME> value specifies the directory where the agent is installed. This value is a required parameter for Windows. However, for Linux, it only needs to be provided if the agent is installed in a non-default directory.
     

Performing the necessary tasks after installation of the interim fix

A successful installation modifies the Linux KVM agent version to 08.19.06.01.

On Linux:
- Ensure that the <APM-AGENT-HOME>/bin/cinfo -t output for the Monitoring Agent for Linux KVM is '08.19.06.01'.
- The agent interim fix installation logs are written to the <APM-AGENT-HOME>/logs/ directory.

Detailed steps to verify the patch is working (i.e. fixes the problem):

  • If you delete any inventory objects(VM,Server,Storage Pool etc) from hyper-v/RHEVM the count of total objects it should reflect properly on APM dashboard

Uninstalling if necessary

This maintenance package cannot be rolled back. If necessary you can uninstall and reinstall the monitoring agent and patches.
