This document summarises the functional enhancements and new system support added at each update of AIX(tm) and related offerings.

Q2 2020 POWER9 firmware FW940 required for the following advanced AIX features
  • POWER9 XIVE - eXternal Interrupt Vector Engine allows the POWER9 firmware to directly target incoming hardware interrupts to the correct LPAR / virtual machine without invoking the Hypervisor first. This reduces CPU cycles in interrupt handling and reduces latency.
  •  POWER9 NX GZIP compression engine, so that the  xgzip command uses the POWER9 GZIP accelerator for compression and decompression of files. Note: users need to install the zlibNX.rte library and xgzip command.
