HTTP 404 Error (Page Not Found) When Accessing The Manage UI

Troubleshooting

Problem

This technote addresses a scenario in IBM Maximo Application Suite (MAS) where users encounter an HTTP 404 error when accessing the Manage UI (manage-shell/index.html). The issue is typically caused by problems accessing persistent storage or the deletion of system files required for rendering the Manage UI.

When a user logs into Manage, MAS performs the following steps:

  1. Queries the database for the Manage UI zip file.
  2. Extracts the zip file into a temporary directory.
  3. Serves the UI pages from the extracted location.

The temporary directory is determined by the system property:

mxe.int.globaldir

If the directory cannot be accessed or files that are needed are deleted, users will not be able to access the Manage application and an HTTP 404 is displayed in the browser.

Symptom

If the directory referenced by this property:

  • Does not exist,
  • Is inaccessible due to persistent storage issues,
  • Or has had required system files deleted (e.g., during pod restarts, volume unmounts, or cleanup operations),

Then the file access fails, and the following error is displayed in the browser:

HTTP ERROR 404
No webpage was found for the web address:
https://<hostname>/maximo/oslc/graphite/manage-shell/index.html

This indicates that the user has successfully authenticated, but the UI files could not be served due to backend file system issues.
