How to verify automated API installer deployed correctly on server in WebSphere Application Server 6.x

Question & Answer

Question

This document describes how to verify that the automated API installer deployed correctly on your server in WebSphere Application Server 6.x.

Answer

To verify that the API is installed correctly on the server you deployed it to, you can move the Sample Servlet to that server and do a form submission. The Sample Servlet provided with Lotus Forms Server uses the API and serves as an "out-of-the-box" test.

Instructions are below for how to setup and use the sample servlet to test the API installation. To use these instructions successfully, you must have one product from each of the following sections installed:

  • WebSphere Application Server, should be version 6.0.x or higher, 6.1.x or higher
  • Lotus Forms Server 3.x; Workplace Forms Server 2.5, 2.6.x, 2.7
  • Lotus Forms API 3.x; Workplace Forms API 2.5, 2.6.x, 2.7

Steps:
1. Log in to the WebSphere Administrative Console using an address such as http://localhost:9060/ibm/console

2. Go to Applications -> Enterprise Applications.

3. From the application list, click the WebformSampleApp (It will be the application with a red 'X' icon).

4. Map the application to a different server.
  • For WebSphere Application Server 6.0.x,
Under the "Additional Properties" menu, click "Map modules to servers".

  • For WebSphere Application Server 6.1.x
Under the Modules section, click Manage Modules.

5. Move the application to server1 using these steps:

a. Select the application (check the checkbox)
b. Select "Server1" from the "Clusters and Servers" listbox
c. Click Apply
d. Click OK

NOTE: Initially your application is set to "TranslatorServer." Once you have successfully moved the application to "server1", then the Server entry reflects this change.

The picture attached below shows the module before the move.

e. Save your changes to the master configuration file.

6. Start the application, using these steps:

a. Go to Applications -> Enterprise Applications (you should normally be here after saving changes to the master configuration)

b. Select the application (check it), then click "Start". The red 'X' icon will change to a green arrow.

7. Using a Web browser, access the Sample Servlet, which is now on port 9080, using a URL such as http://localhost:9080/Samples/

8. Open the preapprovalform.xfdl file using HTML.

9. Fill out the form, then submit it. To verify the submission, check if the file was submitted to the server with these steps:

a. Click "Submissions"

b. You will see a file entry as shown in the screen capture below. If multiple files exist in this folder, look at the timestamp to verify submission.

10. Make sure to move the application back to "TranslatorServer" following all the above steps except for 5b, where you will select "TranslatorServer" instead of "Server1".

If you experience any problems during submission, verify your API install by manually checking your WebSphere Application Server API configuration.
