Troubleshooting

Problem

Using WebDav with WebSphere Portal via a Sun Java System Web Server can require additional configuration steps. This document describes which actions need to be performed.

Symptom

When you use WebDAV client to manage pages and static content through the SUN Web server, the WebDAV client might show an error message stating that folder you entered does not appear to be valid.

Cause

The problem occurs because by default the SUN Web server does not have WebDAV enabled.

Resolving The Problem

To resolve the problem, proceed as follows:

1. Log in to the target Web server administrative console.
2. Select your Web server and click Manage.
3. Click Enable/Disable WebDAV on the Preferences tab to enable WebDAV for the Server Instance.
4. Click the Class Manager and Click Enable/Disable WebDAV on the Content Mgmt tab to enable WebDAV for a Virtual Server Class.
5. Select tab Virtual Servers and select the Virtual Server you want to manage.
6. Click the Add DAV Collection on the WebDAV tab.
7. Add DAV Collection with URI: /webdav/dav/.
8. Click the Edit DAV Collections on the WebDAV tab and click Edit ACL for the DAV Collection you just create.
9. Click Create/Edit Access Control for URI to grant necessary access rights to anyone.

The problem should now be resolved.
