How To
Summary
This document walks you through the steps to use the "Compare and Update" functionality within Access Client Solutions and Navigator for the Web.
Steps
For some time, there has been a function within IBMi Client Services which allows IBMi system administrators to take an inventory of PTFs on a ‘model’ system, compare that inventory with a target system and then update the target system’s PTFs to match the model’s. This functionality is still available with Access Client Solutions (ACS) in conjunction with Navigator for the Web. Below, you should find links to install the ACS client.
Here is a link to obtain ACS as well as additional documentation on the functionality within ACS:
https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/ssw_ibm_i_73/rzajr/rzajracsgettingstarted.htm
Once you have downloaded and installed the latest version of ACS and you have the latest JAVA installed, you should be able to use this function.
You would then start Access Client Solutions by double clicking on the icon.
- After doing this you should select and connect to your model system, then launch Navigator for i.

- After starting Navigator for i, you will want to configure and set up the target systems. Select the Target Systems and Groups.

- Next, you will select your systems and designate one as the target system which will act as the one that is used to gather the data from.

- Next, select Configuration and Service via the drop down:

- Then select All Tasks from the drop down:

- Then from the All Tasks drop down, select PTF and drop those tasks down:

- Now you can see and use the COMPARE AND UPDATE function:

- You would first select the action you wish to take:

- Then you should see the following screen which, showing the target system at the top of the page, your additional system in the column to the left (you will also see the target system listed) and you should then be able to add the new system to the list for the compare and update:

From this point on, you would follow the Navigator for the Web wizard using the “back, “next”, “finish” or “cancel” buttons at the bottom of the page on the wizard.
