How to upgrade Controller 10.1.1.x to a later Interim Fix (IF) Fix Pack (patch) level

Problem

Customer has a working Controller 10.1.1.x application server. Customer would like to patch this 10.1.1 server to a later version of 10.1.1. * For example, they want to upgrade from Controller 10.1.1697 (also known as 10.1.1 FP1 FP2) to 10.1.2708 (also known as 10.1.1 FP3 IF3 GA re-issued version). How do they do this?

Symptom

For reference, here are the version numbers of Controller 10.1.1 which this Technote relates to:
