How to shutdown Classic when a stop command does not work?
Shutdown of classic may take quite a while. 20 or 30 seconds may be quite normal depending on how many subtasks are active. If the shut down process takes more than one minute you may consider cancelling it (/C stcname). However, be aware that some of the classic products may write data to DASD during the shut down process (flush the buffers). Data not written to DASD will be lost in case you cancel the job/started task. If shutdown takes a long time, take an SVCDUMP of the address space before issuing the cancel command. Perhaps you open a ticket with IBM support to investigate the problem.
