Resolving The Problem
Having a hosted (or client) partition start when the hosting NWSD (Network Server Description) is started is referred to as power control. This procedure assumes that the NWSD and the hosted partition are communicating across the server and client SCSI adapters correctly, and that the NWSD can be varied on to an active status. Using power control requires that the server and client SCSI adapters be configured to point directly at each other and not set to ANY ANY.
To configure a power controlling partition, you should perform the following steps:
1. Configure the NWSD parameter Power control to be *yes.
2. Edit the partition profile from the HMC on the Power Controlling tab for the client partition.
3. Select the hosting partition as the power controlling partition.
4. Save the change.
5. Start the partition with the NWSD varied off, and let it initialize until it stops because no disk is available.
6. Stop the partition.
7. Activate the partition by varying on the NWSD.
