How to run multiple instances of MQ Explorer in 7.5 or in 8.0

Question & Answer

Question

In WebSphere MQ 7.0.1, you had a remote server where all your MQ administrators logged in under the same local account. Then, they successfully ran separate instances of the version 7.0.1 MQ Explorer with different APPDATA variable. When the users tried to run MQ Explorer 7.5 or 8.0 with the same settings, they received the error: Explorer is already running Is it possible to run multiple instances of MQ Explorer 7.5 or 8,0 under the same account?

Cause

In MQ 7.5 or 8.0, it is not possible to run multiple instances of MQ Explorer. In MQ 7.0 you could enable the workspace selection through preferences, but this is no longer present in MQ 7.5 and later versions.

Answer

Workaround:

1) You can use a separate Eclipse platform:
Eclipse Helios Sr2 Packages

2) Then install MQ Explorer into this Eclipse:

IBM WebSphere MQ Knowledge Center, Version 7.5 Operating Systems: UNIX, Linux, Windows

WebSphere MQ Explorer >
Installing into Eclipse environments

In this way, each user will be able to set his/her own workspace and work in parallel with other users.
