How to restore a DB2 database (for use with Controller) on a new/different DB2 database server

Problem

How can I restore a DB2 database backup file which has come from one DB2 server (source) onto a different DB2 database server (target)?

Symptom

** IMPORTANT ** - Please read/understand the following notes, before using the information inside this Technote:

  • The instructions are intended to be used by Cognos Controller customers, for use with the Controller product only
  • The instructions are only a basic guide, intended for simple testing/training purposes. Customers use these instructions at their own risk.
  • Backup/restores are the most vital part of administering a database server, and therefore customers are advised to employ an experienced database administrator ('DBA'). The DBA should be capable of performing database backups and restores with ease.
  • This Technote is based on what works in one DB2 server environment (IBM Cognos Controller Support) and may not work for all DB2 environments. Make sure you consult your DB2 specialist before using the advice in this Technote.

If the DB2 database restoration is not performed using the advice/guidance of this Technote, then you may suffer from symptoms such as those described inside separate Technote #1624045.
