How To
Summary
Sometimes you may be not able to connect to your MS SQL Server database (located on another machine) which could be due to various reasons.
There is a simple test that can be implemented from a user’s machine to see if i2 iBase is truly the culprit. It involves creating a "UDL" file and using this file to test the machine's connectivity to the SQL Server, taking i2 iBase out of the equation.
Steps
Below are the steps;
1. Create a new text document on user’s desktop; this will be created with a default ".txt" extension.

2. Right click this file and change the extension to ".UDL"; the file will then look like this:

3. Double click this file and you should see these tabs below; you need to start by clicking on the "Provider" tab and making sure the "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server" option is selected and then you will click on the "Connection" tab.

4. You will need to fill out all of the required information on the "Connection" tab (the "Server Name" field should read servername\instance name).

5. Once you have done the above, you would click on the "Test Connection" button.
If an error is received, then the connection from that machine to the SQL Server is not working correctly. This is not an i2 iBase issue and your newtwork administrator should investigate this. If the test is successful, then the connection is good and in that scenario, it would indicate an i2 iBase issue! This is a simple test that will take all of the guess work out of troubleshooting and pinpoint where is the actual problem is.
