How to override default security protocol in RDi v9.1

Question & Answer

Question

How do you override default protocols with a secure connection to IBM Rational Developer for i (RDi) v9.1?

Answer

In RDi version 9.1, 9.1.1 and 9.1.1.1, the default protocol for a secure connection is TLSv1. In order to use TLSv1.2 protocol, the following changes must be made before starting RDi:

  1. Edit the eclipse.ini file using an editor such as notepad. The eclipse.ini file can be found in the RDi installation directory. The default installation directory is C:\Program Files\IBM\SDP.

  2. Add the following line to the end of the file: -Dcom.ibm.jsse2.overrideDefaultProtocol=TLSv12

  3. Save the file

Please note, in order to use TLSv1.2 in RDi, the protocol must have already been added to the IBM i server list of protocols.
