Troubleshooting
Problem
This document describes how to migrate IBM Rational TestManager projects, that uses a Sybase SQL Anywhere or Microsoft Access database. You cannot use SQL Anywhere with versions 2003.06.16 and later of Rational TestManager and Rational Robot. Versions 7.x support Microsoft Access and IBM DB2.
Cause
Details on Migrating to IBM DB2 Databases from Existing Microsoft Access or SQL Anywhere Databases can be found in the Rational TestManager 2003.06.15 release notes. See IBM Publication GI11-5907-05.
See the Rational TestManager 7.0.0 installation guide GI11-6721-00 for details setting up DB2.
Resolving The Problem
The following steps summarize the steps to migrate a project to DB2.
Migration to DB2
- Open Rational Administrator
- Register the project, if the project is absent on the list
- Connect to the project
- Right click on Rational TestDatastore then click properties
- Click the button Advanced Database Setup
- In the Advanced Database Setup select the check box Use IBM DB2 UDB for database engine
- Type in the Database Alias and your credentials
- Click OK
Migrating SQL Anywhere to MS Access
Note: SQL Anywhere databases must be migrated prior to upgrading to Rational TestManager 2003.06.16 and higher as SQL Anywhere is not supported after the 2003.06.15 versions.
To migrate to a Microsoft Access database, initialize the testdatastore and the testusersandgroups from the SQL Anywhere project. This is the step by step description.
- Open Rational Administrator
- Register the SQL Anywhere project, if the project is absent on the list
- Create a new project
- Configure the project
- In the dialog box Configure Project, click the Create button in the section Test Assets
- In the dialog box Create Test Datastore (Page 1 from 4) select the check box Microsoft Access
- Click Next
- Leave the new Testdatastore path unchanged, then click Next
- Select the check box Enable initialize assets from the following datastore
- Click Browse to select the testdatstore folder of the SQL Anywhere project
- Select the check box Enable initialize test users and groups from the Rational project
- Click Browse to select the TestUsersAndGroups folder of the SQLAnywhere project
- Click Next
- Verify in the next dialog box, if you made the right choices
- Click Finish
Note: The choice between MS Access and DB2 depends on what the purpose is of your test project. In most cases MS Access is suitable for demonstration and testing purposes. For production, a DB2 database might be preferable.
