How to include configuration settings when doing export/import in Cognos Analytics

Question & Answer

Question

When you import/export a full deployment to Cognos Analytics, the configuration settings are not included by default. How can you include the configuration settings in a deployment?

Answer

Add the following Advanced Setting to the CM Service (need set policy rights):
CM.DEPLOYMENTINCLUDECONFIGURATION=true

Steps:

 1. In IBM Cognos Analytics portal, click Manage > Administration console to open IBM Cognos Administration.
 2. On the Status tab, click System.
 3. Click the arrow beside System, and click Set properties.
 4. Click the Settings tab.
 5. In the Value column, click Edit for Advanced Settings.
 6. In the Parameter column, enter the parameter name, (uppercase): CM.DEPLOYMENTINCLUDECONFIGURATION
 7. In the Value column, enter the value for the setting, (lowercase): true
CM.DEPLOYMENTINCLUDECONFIGURATION

 8. Click OK button twice to finish.
 9. Perform full content store export, by navigating to Configuration tab > Content Administration > New Export

Ensure Cognos System Administrator user login to ALL Authentication namespaces in order to export Personal private content.
10.  Select Include user account information checkbox.

Full Content Store export deployment archive file generated under the default path <analytics>/deployment folder

11. Login to the new target environment instance as a Cognos system administrator.
12. Repeat steps (1-8) to set CM.DEPLOYMENTINCLUDECONFIGURATION=true, on the new target environment instance

Ensure Cognos System Administrator user login to ALL Authentication namespaces in order to import Personal private content.

13. Perform full content store import, by navigating to Configuration tab > Content Administration > New Import

14. Under Deployment archive, select full export deployment archive name, click Next
15. Enter full content store export deployment archive Password
16. Provide a new Name for the import definition. Otherwise will encounter a name conflict during import process due to duplicate content maintenance deployments under default Administration location path.
17. Perform the full content store import and select Include user account information checkbox.

Expect the import of the content store into a new or the same server to retain the Dispatcher and Services server settings as previously set before the export.

If trying to retain configuration from a Cognos 10 install to a Cognos 11 install, also add the advanced parameter CM.DEPLOYMENTINCLUDECONFIGURATION to the Content manager service in the Cognos 11 install.
