General Page
CSV (Comma-Separated Values) is a very common textual file format. Its simplicity has made it a standard export and import format for many services and software applications. IBM Video Streaming reports are always available in CSV format. This article walks through the steps necessary to import IBM-generated CSV files properly into Excel.
Step 1: Open the Text Import Wizard
To load the CSV file into Excel, use the From Text action under the Data tab, which will activate the Text Import Wizard.
Step 2: Configure File Type and Starting Row
At the first step, set the file type to Delimited. Optionally, if your CSV file has a header you want to ignore, set Start import at row to the row where the actual data begins. You can use the preview to determine the appropriate row number.
Step 3: Set Delimiter and Text Qualifier
On the next screen, set the delimiter to Comma and the text qualifier to " (double quote character), then press Finish. Step 3 of the wizard is not needed.
Step 4: Choose Import Location
Finally, select a location in your spreadsheet to insert the imported data. In most cases, the default location works perfectly, and you're ready to go.
