How to import data from Oracle using SPSS

Question & Answer

Question

I am using SPSS for Windows. I have installed all the Oracle driver from the SPSS Data Access Pack. How do I connect to Oracle to import my database into SPSS?

Answer

Open SPSS for Windows and go to File->Open Database->New Query. Choose 'Add Data Source' button in step 1 of the Database Wizard. Choose 'Add' within the ODBC Data Source Administrator screen, select the SPSS OEM Oracle Wire Protocol driver in the Create New Data Source screen, then click 'Finish'. In the Oracle Wire Protocol Driver Setup dialog, give an arbitrary Data Source Name and provide the correct database settings. Choosing 'Test Connect' should verify a valid connection to the database. Now, continue to click OK until you are at the original Database Wizard screen.

Follow the instructions for the Database Wizard to import Oracle tables into SPSS.
