Coursera, which is a third-party educational provider, leverages IBM Cloud services with some of their offerings. This document provides answers to common account, billing, and support questions from Coursera learners.
- How do you obtain access to IBM Cloud as a Coursera learner?
- How do you register for IBM Cloud and apply the feature code?
- How do I get help if a feature code is not working?
- My feature code does not work because I already applied a credit card to the account. What are my options?
- Can I convert my Pay-As-You-Go account to a Trial account?
- How do I get help if I have a problem when using IBM Cloud resources as part of a Coursera course?
- What happens to my IBM Cloud account at the end of the course?
To access IBM Cloud services, Coursera provides you with a feature code to apply to the IBM Cloud account. Coursera provides you with the IBM Cloud feature code; IBM Cloud Support cannot issue or replace this feature code.
When you reach the Verify identity stage of the registration process, click Register with a code in the Account information section, as shown in the following screen capture:

The Account Settings page shows the name of the account, the account ID, the account type, and the number of days that remain in your trial, as shown in the following example:

The Settings page also has a section to shows what feature codes are applied to the account, as in this example:

Contact Coursera Support for assistance with a feature code that they provided to you. IBM Cloud Support cannot provide or replace the feature code.
When you add a credit card to your trial account, your account is upgraded to a Pay-As-You-Go account. Educational feature codes can't be used in a Pay-As-You-Go account.
Even though you provide your credit card information for account security and identity verification purposes, you can still use IBM Cloud at no cost by selecting products in the catalog that offer Free and Lite pricing plans. You pay only for billable services that you use, with your credit card charged for the usage as specified in Section 4.3: Billing in the IBM Cloud Service Agreement. If you upgrade your trial account to a Pay-As-You-Go account by entering a credit card, it can't be converted back to a trial account.
An IBM Cloud Trial account with a free support plan is limited to non-technical support related to account access and billing. Users with Trial accounts can view the IBM Cloud Docs and can visit the Support Center to use the Cloud Assistant, review FAQs, or review community forums such as Stack Overflow. For more information about our IBM Cloud account options, see:
At the end of the course, your trial account and feature code expire. At the end of the trial period, you are invited to upgrade your account to a Pay-As-You-Go account. If you do not upgrade your account or apply another feature code, then the account is deactivated and its resources deleted.
