Summary

This document will go over the many various ways you can find what your machine-type model is for a Power Systems product.

Steps

Looking at the Physical System with the Label

When looking at your system on-site, you can find the machine-type model located on the left side latches on the front of your system.

See pictures for reference below of where to look on different systems.

Also, some systems, you may need to look for the machine- type model on the system control unit (SCU) on the left side behind the cover.

Using Function 20 on the Control Panel

When you proceed to function 20 on the control panel, it will display the machine type and model.  This function is available in both normal and manual operating mode.

Also, depending on what system you have function 20 will display other information as well. In order to know what other features Function 20 will show you, go to IBM Documentation and look up you machine-type model and search function 20 for further information.

Example For Activated Function 20:

The values are indicated as follows:
  • Values for p indicate the machine type.
  • Values for m indicate the machine model.

From ASMI

To get to ASMI you can get there two ways:

  1. Typing in the FSP, BMC, or eBMC IP address - https://<IP Address> in the address bar of the web browser.
  2. From the HMC:
    1. For V10 HMCs:
      Select the tab System Resources -> Systems 
      This will display all systems linked to that HMC, select your system
      Proceed to the menu towards the top of the screen called Connections and Operations ->Launch advanced system management (ASMI)
    2. For V9 or HMCs:
      In the navigation pane, select System Management > Servers.
      In the content pane, select the server you want to work with.
      Select Tasks > Operations > Launch Advanced Systems Management (ASM).
Once you are on the ASMI homepage, you will see your machine- type model located at the top of the screen and in the welcome message.

From The HMC (If you have one attached to your system).

On the HMC, you can easily see what machine-type model.
  1. For V10 HMCs:
    Select the tab System Resources -> Systems 
    This will display all systems linked to that HMC, check the Machine type column for the serial number you are looking for.

  1. For V9 or HMCs:
    In the navigation pane, select Resources -> All Systems.  
    Select the Name of the System - > Actions -> View System Properties

    Obtain value from the Machine Type field.
