** How to ** Enable SSL / HTTPS with Cognos Controller

Question & Answer

Question

Customer would like to use SSL (HTTPS) with IBM Cognos Controller. How can they do this type of configuration?

Cause

There are many different potential ways to configure IBM Cognos Controller, so therefore there are different ways to implement and enable HTTPS.

Answer

(1) 'Main' IBM Cognos Controller client (CCR.EXE), deployed with the traditional method
  • This option is the most common and popular method to use IBM Cognos Controller
  • Instructions on how to secure this method with HTTPS are in separate IBM technote #2004920

(2) 'Main' IBM Cognos Controller client (CCR.EXE), deployed with the Gateway (t=controller) configuration

  • This configuration is rarely used
  • Instructions on how to secure this method with HTTPS are in separate IBM technote #1345570

(3) Controller Web

  • This user interface is a new feature from IBM Cognos Controller 10.3 onward
  • Its use is optional (some customers to not use it)
  • It is not a complete replacement for CCR.EXE. Therefore, if a customer uses IBM Cognos Controller Web for some users, there are other users who still use the 'main' IBM Cognos Controller client (CCR.EXE).
  • Instructions on how to secure this option with HTTPS are in separate IBM technote #1998458.
