** How to ** Enable SSL / HTTPS with Cognos Controller

Question & Answer

Question

Customer would like to use SSL (HTTPS) with Controller. How can they do this?

Cause

There are many different potential ways to configure Cognos Controller, so therefore there are different ways to implement/enable HTTPS.

Answer

(1) 'Main' Controller client (CCR.EXE), deployed via traditional method

  • This is the most common/popular method to use Controller
  • Instructions on how to secure this with HTTPS are in separate IBM Technote #2004920

(2) 'Main' Controller client (CCR.EXE), deployed via Gateway (t=controller) configuration

  • This configuration is rarely used
  • Instructions on how to secure this with HTTPS are in separate IBM Technote #1345570

(3) Controller Web

  • This is a new feature from Controller 10.3 onwards
  • Its use is optional (some customers to not use it)
  • It is not a complete replacement for CCR.EXE. Therefore, if a customer uses Controller Web for some users, there will be other users who still use the 'main' Controller client (CCR.EXE).
  • Instructions on how to secure this with HTTPS are in separate IBM Technote #1998458.
