How to enable and perform AAA logging for Cognos Analytics 11.

Question & Answer

Question

What is the method for enabling, performing and collecting the results of AAA logging in Cognos Analytics 11?

Answer

Enabling the trace

1. Open the cognos_installation_location\configuration folder in Windows Explorer.

2. Identify the ipfaaaclientconfig.xml.sample file, make a copy of it in the same location and rename it to ‘ipfclientconfig.xml’. This means you will now have two files – the original and the modified copy.

3. Open the cognos_installation_location\logs folder.

4. Wait for up to 1 minute before checking that the following file has now appeared in the logs folder: AAAclient.log.

Disabling the trace

1. Open the cognos_installation_location\configuration folder again.

2. Delete the ipfclientconfig.xml file created in the previous steps.

Enabling the trace (Cognos Analytics 11.0.7+)

1. Log into the Cognos portal.

2. Go to Manage -> Configuration -> Diagnostic Logging.
3.  Under Built-in topics, enable AAA tracing.
4. Click Apply  to save the changes.
5. Wait for up to 1 minute before the notification  Successfully enabled topic AAA appears.
6. The results of the trace will be in the cognosserver.log files.
7. To disable the trace, go to Manage -> Configuration -> Diagnostic Logging and select the DEFAULT LOGGING option.
