Question
How does Tealeaf determine when to end a session?
Answer
Primarily the Short-Term Canister in the Tealeaf system determines when to end a session by observing that more than Session Idle Seconds has elapsed since the most recent hit was seen in that session.? This setting is adjusted in the Canister parameters by using Tealeaf Management System (TMS).? The timeout scheme likely mimics your web applications logic.? The actual timeout between the two may however vary.
There are secondary settings that may also contribute to ending a session:
There are secondary settings that may also contribute to ending a session:
- In cxImpact versions there are close session event categories that you can use to specify that a session should be closed if the event occurs.? For instance if there is a logout link or button in your Web application you might define a close session event that triggers when logout is requested by using that link or button.
- The Canister pipeline agent in the Transport Service imposes limits on session size and duration to protect the Short-Term Canister.? These limits by default are 2048 hits 5 MB and 1 hour of total session duration (not inter-hit duration as in Session Idle Seconds).? These settings can be found in TMS under the Canister --> Canister Configuration Hive.
