Question

How do you increase the Portal session timeout?

Answer
In?Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager do the following:
  1. Get Properties of the Portal virtual directory.?
  2. On the Virtual Directory tab click the Configuration button in the Application Settings area.
  3. On the Options tab of the resulting dialog window set your desired session timeout value.
  4. Restart the World Wide Web Publishing Service to enact the change.

You need to check whether the Web site under which the Portal virtual directory is located has defined a different value for session timeout that overrides the setting made in the Portal virtual directory settings.

Increasing the IIS session timeout increases RAM utilization slightly on the Portal server as IIS is maintaining session state continuously for a longer period of time.
