Question & Answer
Question
How do I unobfuscate a campaign URL?
Answer
Obfuscation single-parameter - cm_mmc_o are formatted with '-_-' VCPI delimiters. This parameter option in Tracking Code Generator will encrypt your parameters such that your campaign parameters will not be readable in your URLs. The values are decrypted in the reporting interface.
The cm_mmc parameters support simple obfuscation to reduce the chances of a visitor casually reading sensitive information out of these tracking URLs.
You can manually unobfuscate the parameters on a link by matching up the characters in the "Character List" with the ones in the "Character map".
For example "A" would be "-"? and? "B" would be "P". This will allow you to decode the link.
Character List: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz-_1234567890
Character Map: -P2KHd7ZG3s14WRVhqmaJe8rQUz_gpwuTtbXLkFEB56ylfAMc0YOCjvnNSDxIo9i
Characters that do not appear in the first list should not be modified. Some examples are shown below:
cm_re=ABC*abc*123 is equivalent to cm_re_o=-P2*z_g*vnN
cm_mmc=Google*Shopping*Keywords*shoes is equivalent to cm_mmc_o=7BBTkw*mtB55bET*swYcBypl*ltBwl
cm_sp=%.+*$#@*~() is equivalent to cm_sp_o=%.+*$#@*~()
