How to create a Virtual Table in Data Virtualization Manager (DVM) Studio using a local PC file as a Copybook

Question & Answer

Question

How to create a Virtual Table in Data Virtualization Manager (DVM) Studio using a copybook file located on PC instead of one stored on mainframe?

Answer

  • Start the Virtual Table creation process in DVM Studio.
  • Proceed through the wizard until you reach the Copybook Selection screen.
    • At this point, any mainframe file can be selected temporarily to reach this screen.
  • On the Copybook Selection screen, click the yellow folder icon located in the upper‑right corner.
  • Browse to and select the copybook file located on your local PC.
  • Once selected, the local file will appear in the list of available copybooks.
  • Remove the original mainframe copybook:
    • Right‑click the mainframe file and select Delete.
  • Select the local PC copybook as the active copybook.
  • Continue with the remaining steps to complete the Virtual Table creation.
Note:

  • The initial mainframe file is only required to advance to the copybook selection screen.
  • After adding the local file, the mainframe copybook can safely be removed.
  • Ensure the local copybook format is supported by DVM Studio.
