How to Create a Virtual Disk from iDRAC9 GUI

This documents shows how to create a Virtual Disk through iDRAC9 GUI. We provide steps for FW 5.10.00.10 and newer, and for older FW versions.

Objective

The objective of this document is to provide step-by-step guidance on creating a Virtual Disk from iDRAC9 GUI.

Steps

Steps for iDRAC9 with FW version 5.10.00.00 or newer.
For iDRAC9 with FW version below 5.10.00.00 go here.
 
  1. In iDRAC GUI, go to Storage and then click Physical Disks.

     
  • Available disks presented in the Physical Disk Configuration section.

     
  • Click Create Virtual Disk button.

     
  • Configure Virtual Disk properties.
    Select the controller and click Next to continue.

     
  • Select Physical Disks and click Next.

     
  • Confirm the Capacity and click Next.

     
  • Review the parameters and click Add to Pending.

     
  • Pending Operation is created. To perform this creation task, select Apply Now. If needed, the task can be scheduled.

     
  • The raid configuration task starts. Track operation status in Maintenance -> Job Queue.

  1. In iDRAC GUI, open Configuration and click Storage Configuration.

     
  • Select the RAID controller.

     
  • Confirm physical disks are available in the Physical Disk Configuration section.
     

     
  • Under Virtual Disk Configuration menu click on the button Create Virtual Disk.

     
  • The creator wizard appears to configure the Virtual Disk properties.

     
  • Scroll down to select disks and create pending operation.

     
  • The message "RAC0685: A pending operation has been created for this Create Virtual Disk operation" appears to confirm the task creation.

     
  • To run this task, at the bottom of the page, click Apply Now. If needed, the task can be scheduled.

     
  • The raid configuration task starts. Monitor the status in Maintenance  menu, clicking Job Queue.
