How to create interactive prompts during import from Framework Manager

Troubleshooting

Problem

Customer has created a simple import specification, so that they can successfully import data from Cognos BI, via Framework Manager. How can they modify this import so that the end user is presented with some interactive prompts? In other words, how can the customer design an interactive import from Framework Manager system, so that the user can choose some settings during the import?

Symptom

More Information on why you would want to create an interactive prompt:
Cognos Controller supports the ability to import external data from a Cognos BI report. However, there are cases where the number of rows returned by the report is large, yet it is known in advance that a majority of these rows will simply be discarded during import processing.

In this case, a performance penalty incurs since unnecessary processing is performed on rows that are known to be irrelevant. In addition, memory and network consumption increases due to the large volume of rows being returned from the Cognos BI report server.

To address this, support has been added such that variables defined within the import specification can be passed along to the Cognos BI report server. This will allow row filtering to be performed with the report server, eliminating the transmission of rows that are known not to be needed.
