How to create a "filtered" Alarm within vCenter using Advanced Settings

Question & Answer

Question

How can one filter a "Lost Network Connectivity" alarm to trigger only based on a specific host and physical NIC combination?

Answer

1.select VC on vSphere inventory and  right click
-> select Alarm -> Add Alarm
2.On General tab, select Hosts

-> check "Monitor for specific events occurring on this object,for example,VM powered On".
3.On Triggers tab, click Add

-> select Event:"Lost Network Connectivity"
-> select Status:"Warning".
4.And then click Conditions:"Advanced setting".

(In vSphere 6.x, this is in the "The following conditions must be satisfied for the trigger to fire" section".)

At this point you create the Argument, Operator, Value combinations for your desired filter.

The following combination will yield a filter that limits this alarm to the vmnic1 adapter on host TestESXhost01.

Argument                Operator                Value
Host name               equal to                TestESXhost01
2                       equal to                vmnic1

The "numbered" arguments represent the following values:
"1" = vSwitch Name affected
"2" = vmnic (such as vmnic1)
"3" = Affected Portgroups
