How to control whether ISPF command entry fields have underscores

Question & Answer

Question

How do I remove the underlined command input areas in ISPF/PDF? The "Option ===>" and "Command ===>" fields have a long line of underscore characters instead of blanks (or nulls) like I prefer to have.

Cause

This is a function of the CUAATTR setting for the Normal Entry Field.

Answer

Here is how ot make the change from underscore to blanks.

1- From an ISPF command line, enter the CUAATTR command.

2- Scroll down to the settings for "Normal Entry Field".

3- Under the "Highlight" column, change the setting for "Normal Entry Fields" from USCORE to NONE. The input area after Command and Input (normal entry fields) will not be delimited by underscores and will simply look blank.
