Summary
The LEDs do not initiate until either the cable is plugged into the SAN switch and a 'cfgmgr' is run or Diagnostics is run with a wrap plug installed into the adapter ports.
Affected Feature Codes
16 Gb 2-port Fibre Channel adapters: EN0A, EN0B, EN23
32 Gb 2-port Fibre Channel adapters: EN1A, EN1B
16 GB 4-port Fibre Channel adapters: EN1C, EN1D
The laser is off by default on the listed products until the adapter is initialized with an active link.
Steps
If adapter port fails to connect to a switch or device, it is recommended to perform the following steps:
- Use a known good fibre cable
- Use a known good switch port/SFP
- Unconfigure and reconfigure the adapter port by entering the following commands:
rmdev -Rl fcs# cfgmgr -l fcs# If after referencing this online document and confirming these requirements have been met, you are still experiencing connectivity issues with your adapter, contact IBM HW support to open:
- A Power Hardware support case to have a skilled IBM SSR or Top gun sent onsite to confirm that these products are working as they are designed to do so.
- An AIX operating system case into our AIX / SAN Software support team if SAN issues persist.
