Question & Answer

Question

How do you configure IBM Rational Insight user authentication and login?

Cause

By default, Rational Insight allows anonymous users to login.

Answer

You can configure Rational Insight with LDAP, Active Directory, Cognos Series 7, Custom Java Provider, Netegrity SiteMinder, NTLM, and SAP.

To configure user authentication and login, apply the following steps:

  1. Configure LDAP or another user administrator server
    1. Click Start > All Programs > Rational Insight > IBM Cognos 8 > IBM Cognos Connection > Security > Authentication.

    2. Right click New resource and then select Namespace > LDAP from the list.

    3. Provide server details and save the configuration.

    4. Test your configuration by right clicking the new namespace and then selecting Test.

    5. Restart Cognos and Insight once the connection is successful

    6. Login to Insight.

      Note:
You can still login as an anonymous user.

  2. Configure Cognos
      1. Select Administer IBM Cognos content and then select the Security tab. The new namespace is not yet available.

      2. Click on Log On in order to make the new namespace available for permission assignment,

      3. Select Cognos namespace to list all access groups defined by the Cognos namespace.

For example: To assign the "system-admin" group to the System Administrators group in Cognos, click the more link associated with the System Administrators group. Then click onset members.

      4. Navigate to System Administrators page and click on Type to add groups to the new namespace.

      5. Enter the group using the format [Namespace ID]/[name of group]. The namespace ID is defined in the Cognos Configuration.

      6. Click the arrow icon to enter the group into the Cognos group and click OK to complete the assignment.

      7. Remove the Everyone group by selecting Everyone and then clicking Remove and Click OK.

      8. Repeat the steps 1-7 for each Cognos group.

      9. Turn off Anonymous access in Cognos Configuration and then restart Cognos.
