How to Configure Controller 8 to use Access Manager authentication

Customer would like to configure Controller 8.x so that the end users logon via their Access Manager credentials. How can they achieve this?

Cognos 8 Controller can use the following 3 types of security logon authentication methods:

  • Native (default) – this is where the users/passwords are entirely stored inside the Controller database itself
  • Series 8
  • Windows

To configure Cognos 8 Controller to run with Series 8 (or indeed Windows Authentication), you must
  1. Configure Controller 8 to run with Cognos 8 authenticated access
  2. Add Controller users to the built-in Cognos roles
  3. Map Controller roles to the Cognos 8 users, via the GUI inside Controller itself.

Resolving The Problem

See attached document ("04b. Configuring Controller 8 to use Access Manager authentication - v1.1.pdf") for full instructions on how to achieve this.

TIP: Although the screenshots are from Controller 8.2.x, the concept and solution is the same for Controller 8.3, 8.4 etc.
