How to color code DOORS objects based on the attribute value

Question & Answer

Question

How do you color code objects in IBM Rational DOORS according to their attribute values?

Cause

When you select an attribute value that has an associated color the text remains black.

Answer

The default text color in a DOORS column is black. You can change the color of text information in a column based on an attribute value by modifying the properties of the column.

Here is an example of how to color code data:

First you need an enumerated type with values in the list that have a specified color

Create an attribute of this type and set the appropriate value for associated objects

Note: It is not necessary to show the enumerated attribute (being used for Text Color) as a column in the view; however if that attribute value is empty for an object no color choice is applied.

In the module view

  1. Choose the column of text by right clicking the column heading

  2. Click Properties...

  3. In the Text Color section select the radio button labeled By attribute

  4. Click the drop down arrow to the right and select from the list an attribute with the color values needed

  5. Click OK

You can apply color to the background if necessary by choosing that option in the column properties
