How to Change Timezone to a UTC Timezone on Hosts

Question & Answer

Question

How can the timezone of the hosts be changed to a UTC timezone?

Cause

We have a script that exists currently to change timezones. It resides under

/opt/nz-hwsupport/install_tools/nz-timeset.pl

However, it does not properly update the UTC timezone and needs to be done manually.

Answer

To update the timezone manually, you can perform one of these solutions below:

(1) copy or create a soft link
cp -p /usr/share/zoneinfo/UTC /etc/localtime

Or

ln -sf /usr/share/zoneinfo/UTC /etc/localtime

(2) update /etc/sysconfig/clock ZONE="UTC"
