How to change partition ID

How To

Summary

This document describes the way to change a partition ID.

Steps

To change a partition ID on a POWER system, there are two options:

1. Partition Mobility: Allows the user to specify the partition id on the target.  Performing a "round trip" migration to another server and back; specifying the new partition id on the migration can be used to alter the partition id.

More information on Partition Mobility: https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/POWER9/p9hc3/p9hc3_hmcprepare.htm

2. Create a new partition with a unique partition ID.

Note: Specifying an override to the set the partition ID may be required.

There are no other means to change a partition ID.
