Question & Answer
Question
How do you change the default Availability Zone name "nova" to a custom name using IBM Cloud Orchestrator?
Cause
You need to change the Availability Zone names from the default (nova) to a custom name and wish to know if there any known issues when renaming.
Answer
If you only want to impact NEW deploys, and do not have existing virtual machines to manage, the following procedure will help you to rename the default Availability Zone name.
WARNING: Making changes to the default Availability Zone name (nova) already in use will impact the existing virtual machines which IBM Cloud Orchestrator needs to manage.
Procedure:
- Update the nova.conf and cinder.conf files and change the following values.
default_availability_zone = new-availability-zone
default_schedule_zone = new-availability-zone
storage_availability_zone = new-availability-zone
- Stop nova and cinder services
/opt/ibm/orchestrator/scorchestrator/SCOrchestrator.py stop
- Start nova and cinder services
/opt/ibm/orchestrator/scorchestrator/SCOrchestrator.py start
