Troubleshooting
Problem
This document describes how to change the configuration administrator user password for the Sun Java Server Console within the User and Group authentication settings.
Symptom
Following the steps similar to KB 1020263 to change the Sun Java Administration
Server Administrator password could lead to unexpected results. Logging back
into the Sun Java server console with this new password and navigating to the
Configuration tab for the Directory Server (data52) on Port 389, the following
message is displayed:
"You do not have the required access rights
to read the configuration data of the server. Log as an user with enough
rights to see the data (administrator or directory manager for
example)."
Functionality is missing with this new password. This is because the new admin password is actually logging in as a different user now (Administration Server Administrator). This user has restricted permissions compared to the Configuration Administrator user for the Sun Java Server Console. What is actually required is to change the Configuration Administrator password within the Sun Java Server Console, under "Users and Groups", as outlined in this document.
