Summary
The Integrated Management Log (IML) contains the Machine's System error logs.
Objective
The goal of this topic is to show several ways to collect the IML log (via ILO, using the SmartStart CD or by using Intelligent
Provisioning) on Proliant Servers and Blades (P & C class) Gen 2 -7 (ILO, ILO2, ILO3) and on Servers
and Blades (C class) Gen 8 and up (ILO4 and ILO5).

Steps
1. Capturing the IML via the ILO
Note: It’s impossible to save the IML Log on machines with ILO & ILO 2 installed. You’ll need to capture screen shots. On machines equipped with ILO 3 and up, you can save the IML to file.
1.1 Logon to the ILO
Logon to the ILO management network port via a web browser (eg https://1.1.2.3). The Userid and Password are needed. If they aren't available, you can bypass the logon screen using the ILO security override switch, which is present on all Servers and Blades (see maintenance guide for more details). Machines can have a dedicated or shared management network port.
Select “Integrated Management log” in the “System Status” tab and capture screen shots.
1.1.2 ILO 3
Select “Integrated Management Log” and click the “View CSV” button. Copy the CSV output and paste it into a text editor saving it as a .csv file.
1.1.3 ILO 4
Select “Integrated Management Log” and click the “View CSV” button. When the CSV output is displayed, click “Save” to store the Event Log as a .csv file.
1.1.4 ILO 5
Select "Information", “Integrated Management Log” and click the “View CSV” button. When the CSV output is displayed, click “Save” to store the Event Log as a .csv file.

2. Capturing the IML using the SmartStart CD.
2.1 Download the appropriate SmartStart tool for your server from the HP support web site and create a bootable CD or USB key.
2.2 Insert the SmartStart CD or USB key and power on the system and allow the machine to boot from it. Ensure the boot priority is set to appropriate device in F9 RBSU.
2.3 Once the machine has booted it shows the following screen. By default the language is set to English. Please don't change this. It's important to capture the IML in English. Choose the appropriate keyboard layout and click “Next“.
2.4 Click “Agree”
2.5 Select “Maintenance”
2.6 Click HP Insight Diagnostics
2.7 On the “Log” tab, select “Integrated Management Log” and click “Save”.
If a FDD is present, the output will be saved to it. Otherwise a USB key needs to be inserted.
NOTE: The screenshots above have been taken from Smartstart v8.40. If other versions of SmartStart are used, the graphics may be different but the steps are similar.
3. Capturing the IML using Intelligent Provisioning.
3.1 Connect a USB key to the machine in order to save the IML log output.
3.2 Power on the machine and press “F10” during post to enter the embedded Intelligent Provisioning tool.
3.3 Select HP Intelligent Provisioning
3.4 Select “Perform Maintenance”
3.5 Go to Insight Diagnostics
3.6 On the Log tab, select “Integrated Management Log” and click “Save log”.
The log will now be saved on the USB key previously installed.
