How can I analyze mainframe data using InfoSphere Information Analyzer?

Question & Answer

Question

How can I analyze mainframe data using InfoSphere Information Analyzer?

Answer

Information Analyzer supports using mainframe based data sources, however, there are specific ways that this may be implemented.

  1. Information Analyzer can analyze any data source that is ODBC accessible. Create a ODBC connection to the mainframe data.
  2. If you are unable to use ODBC to connect to mainframe, it is possible to design a DataStage MVS job that will read the data and output into a data source that is acceptable by Information Analyzer. This link to the Information Server 8.7 documentation provides information on InfoSphere DataStage MVS Edition: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iisinfsv/v8r7/topic/com.ibm.swg.im.iis.productization.iisinfsv.overview.doc/topics/cisodsmvsintro.html
  3. By using the InfoSphere Federated Server, you can connect mainframe based data to Information Server. This link is to a Information Analyzer RedBook that has a chapter on how to do this: http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redpieces/abstracts/sg247508.html
