Question & Answer
Question
How can I analyze mainframe data using InfoSphere Information Analyzer?
Answer
Information Analyzer supports using mainframe based data sources, however, there are specific ways that this may be implemented.
- Information Analyzer can analyze any data source that is ODBC accessible. Create a ODBC connection to the mainframe data.
- If you are unable to use ODBC to connect to mainframe, it is possible to design a DataStage MVS job that will read the data and output into a data source that is acceptable by Information Analyzer. This link to the Information Server 8.7 documentation provides information on InfoSphere DataStage MVS Edition: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iisinfsv/v8r7/topic/com.ibm.swg.im.iis.productization.iisinfsv.overview.doc/topics/cisodsmvsintro.html
- By using the InfoSphere Federated Server, you can connect mainframe based data to Information Server. This link is to a Information Analyzer RedBook that has a chapter on how to do this: http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redpieces/abstracts/sg247508.html
