How to block a user from obtaining a license

To block a user from obtaining a licenses:

1. Navigate to the <install_path>\Rational\Common folder.
   
   
2. Navigate to and open the rational.opt file with a text editor.
   Note: This file is known as the options file.
   
   
3. Edit the rational.opt and type in the EXCLUDE feature followed by the product USER and username.
   
   For example, assume you have 10 floating licenses for IBM Rational Suite Enterprise, and you want to block the users "Marsha" and "Bob" from using IBM Rational Suite Enterprise, in order to keep the licenses for this product available for other users. The users "Marsha" and "Bob" are the Microsoft Windows user log in names for Marsha and Bob. Set up the options file using Microsoft Windows Notepad® or other text editor to create a text file named "rational.opt" with the following line of syntax:
   
   EXCLUDE RationalSuiteEnterprise USER Marsha Bob
   
   If you are not sure of the exact IBM Rational product syntax to use in the options file's EXCLUDE statement, open the license file (rational_server_perm.dat) on the license server host and use the product name directly after the word "INCREMENT" in the INCREMENT paragraph.
   
   
4. Stop and restart the license server service once you have created and saved the options file.
   You can perform this task on the license server host by going to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services and stopping and restarting the FLEXlm License Manager service.
