How to add a local user account to run a Sybase SQL Anywhere 8 service

Troubleshooting

Problem

A user wants to run a Sybase ® SQL Anywhere 8 service using a specific local user account. However, that local user account is not among the list of accounts that can be selected to run the service, and the list is not editable.

Resolving The Problem

To add the desired local user account to the list

  1. Go to the Control Panel
  2. Select Users and Passwords
  3. Click the Advanced tab
  4. Click the Advanced button in the Advanced User Management section.
  5. Add (create) the local user account
The next time Sybase Central is opened, that account should be among the list of accounts available to run the service.

The account that runs the Sybase service can also be specified via Services in the Control Panel (Administrative Tools). See Tech Note 1119325 to do this.
