Question

How do you activate your IBM® Rational® software trial? .

Cause

You want to start or extend your trial.

Answer

The products in the IBM Rational Software Development Platform (SDP) have a different license method than products outside the SDP.


  • Non-SDP products use the FlexLM licensing mechanism. The license key is separately listed next to your software download. The evaluation license key consists of a file with the .upd extension.

    Your IBM Rational product download already has the necessary Flexlm components.

  • SDP products use the self-activating keys.

Non-SDP Products

  1. Start your Rational product for the first time.

    The License Key Administration Wizard automatically starts and asks for the evaluation key.

  2. Import the key to activate the program.

The following steps describe an alternative method.

  1. Double click on the .upd file.

    This action opens the License Key Administrator. The License Key Administrator then opens the confirm import window. This window asks you to import the node-locked license.

  2. Import the license key. The Licence Key Administrator reports if the import was successful or unsuccessful.


If you fail to import the evaluation license key, contact IBM Rational Client Support. Preferably by Electronic Service Request. You can find the telephone numbers in the Directory of Worldwide Contacts on ibm.com.






SDP Products

Most of the SDP products include a self activating evaluation license activation key. There is no separate license file to download. When you start your SDP product, the product uses the internal evaluation license activation key.

In other cases, consider the following steps.
  1. Download a separate license activation file, a .jar file.

  2. Import this file by means of the Installation Manager utility.


The trial expires 30 days after installation. Rational Application Developer expires 60 days after installation.

Contact the IBM Rational sales representative for your region. To find your sales representative, open the Directory of Worldwide Contacts and choose your country to see the contact information for your country.
