Troubleshooting
Problem
Host CPU usage
Resolving The Problem
Issue
vCenter triggers a host with high CPU usage alarm.
Troubleshooting steps
- Check which VMs are causing the high CPU usage by looking at the virtual machine tab of the host affected in the vSphere client.
- Sort the list by the "Host CPU" column".
- Access the identified VM and check task manager, to identify which process causes such a high CPU load.
- Understand if this is normal activity; if not take actions to restart the applications/services
- If this is normal activity then the cluster is too small to run the load, and DRS is unable to move the VM to a less populated host.
- To add additional capacity to the cluster, refer to the IBM Cloud article expanding and contracting capacity for vCenter Server instances.
