Host CPU usage

Host CPU usage

Resolving The Problem

Issue

vCenter triggers a host with high CPU usage alarm.

Troubleshooting steps

  1. Check which VMs are causing the high CPU usage by looking at the virtual machine tab of the host affected in the vSphere client.
  2. Sort the list by the "Host CPU" column".
  3. Access the identified VM and check task manager, to identify which process causes such a high CPU load.
  4. Understand if this is normal activity; if not take actions to restart the applications/services
  5. If this is normal activity then the cluster is too small to run the load, and DRS is unable to move the VM to a less populated host.
  6. To add additional capacity to the cluster, refer to the IBM Cloud article expanding and contracting capacity for vCenter Server instances.
