IBM has identified a low probability, multiple component failure scenario where Flash Systems 840, V840, 900 and V9000 can corrupt data.

Description
IBM has identified a scenario where multiple steps must happen in sequence to cause an undetected data corruption. First a flash module gateway error has to occur that can cause one system XBar to reset. The same error then has cause a second xBar to reset. Then a flash module must fail during the system recovery and initiates a rebuild. It is possible that the rebuild attempt will result in undetected data corruption.

Mitigation
In addition to an iFix released in May, 1.4.7.0 is now available that will prevent the data corruption by failing the flash module instead resetting the Xbars.
 
For V9000, a new firmware will contain fixes that will correct the flash module gateway errors that start the chain of events that could lead to data corruption. The fixes will be implemented in releases 7.8.1.3 which are targeted for 3Q17.
