Problem
What are the limits of HCP Terraform?
Is there any limit to the number of users / workspaces / runs / states stored in a given HCP Terraform organization?
- While we have not defined a specific limit on the number of runs performed or workspaces per organization, this is governed by the HCP Terraform agreement, where we expect fair use and have the following anti-abuse policy:
Customer’s access and usage of the SaaS Service may not exceed the typical and customary utilization of such service, as contemplated by HashiCorp in its sole discretion (including, but not limited to, creating/deleting an excessive number of workspaces, excessive creation/deletion of accounts, and any non-standard usage of compute resources), and may not interfere with other users’ utilization of the SaaS Service.
- Previously, the Free tier limited organizations to five active members. Now, the updated Free tier plan covers up to 500 managed resources and includes unlimited users.
- Depending on your use case, the number of concurrent runs could also become a limiting factor. HCP Terraform customers on the Free plan are limited to one concurrent Terraform run and the Standard tier to three concurrent runs, as described in the Terraform Pricing documentation.
- For Free tier organizations, HCP Terraform always retains at least the last 100 states (across all workspaces) and at least the most recent state for every workspace. Additional states beyond the last 100 are retained for six months, and are then deleted.
