Abstract

  • Refer to the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) / Solid State Drive (SSD) and Data ONTAP Disk Qualification Package (DQP) Download and Installation Instructions for important considerations before updating HDD firmware and the Data ONTAP DQP on your N series storage systems.
  • After reviewing the above materials, carefully use the appropriate installation instructions for the version of the vendor's HDD / SSD. Failure to follow the instructions can cause damage to your storage system and loss of data.
NEWS
The Hard Disk Drive (HDD) / Solid State Drive (SSD) firmware is installed on the HDDs / SSDs in your N series hardware. The Data ONTAP Disk Qualification Package (DQP) is installed to upgrade Data ONTAP to allow it to recognize new HDDs / SSDs which were not included in the Data ONTAP release. Upgrades are available for download using the "Software Packages ...." link from the Download task of the N series Support website. Refer to the important information for N series support for step-by-step instructions explaining how to access software packages as part of the complete instructions for entitlement and registration. When following the step-by-step instructions, select the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) and Solid State Drive (SSD) Firmware software package from the N series and related Host Software Downloads - Pick page. Download the file format containing either all or individually selected vendors and versions of HDD firmware and, if necessary, the DQP if the Data ONTAP release being used does not recognize newer HDDs / SSDs installed on your N series storage system. Use the instructions provided here to download the appropriate files to the required location and install them.

Note: The Data ONTAP DQP is required to prevent issues with a Data ONTAP release not recognizing new HDDs / SSDs and automatically shutting down the storage system.
