Guidelines for /etc/resolv.conf file

Question & Answer

Question

Can I modify the /etc/resolv.conf file on the NPS hosts?

Answer

On IBM Netezza 1000 (formerly TwinFin) systems running Netezza 5.0 and later, the /etc/resolv.conf file located on the Netezza hosts is owned and managed by the system. The file consists of two sections: nameserver entries and domain search strings.

The nameserver entries should never be modified manually.  If the file is modified manually, the Netezza system will be negatively impacted. If you must set different nameservers, modify the /etc/resolv.conf.upstream file.

The only legitimate change that you can make to the /etc/resolv.conf file is to append domains to the search list. For example, you might add "netezza.com" after "npsdomain".

Do not remove the "npsdomain" string or add new domains before "npsdomain".
